“Sometimes helping someone buy a home means closing today. Other times, it means listening, coaching, encouraging and helping build a plan for tomorrow.”
For more than 25 years, I have had the privilege of helping families navigate one of the biggest financial decisions of their lives: buying a home.
I began my mortgage career in Denton in 2001. A lot has changed in the mortgage business since then, but I have tried to keep my approach pretty simple: answer the phone, communicate honestly, work hard, find solutions when things get difficult, and treat every client the way I would want someone to treat my own family.
Sometimes that means helping someone buy a home today. Other times, it simply means listening.
Not everyone who calls me is ready to buy a home right now, and that is okay. Sometimes people need someone who will hear their story, answer their questions honestly, coach and encourage them, and help build a plan to get where they want to go. That plan may take a few months or even a few years. I have always believed that helping someone prepare for tomorrow is every bit as important as helping someone close on a home today.
God has blessed my career far beyond anything I could have expected. For six consecutive years, I have been recognized among the Top 1% of mortgage professionals in the nation for both production and customer service. I have also been recognized by D Magazine as a Top Mortgage Producer in 2023, 2024 and 2025. I am grateful for those honors, but I know none of them happen without an incredible team and thousands of families who have trusted us over the years.
Today, my online reviews include more than 1,000 client reviews with an overall rating of 4.95 out of 5 stars. Those reviews probably mean more to me than any award because they represent real people and families we have had the opportunity to serve.
I currently serve as a Branch Manager with Highlands Residential Mortgage, helping homebuyers throughout Texas and Florida. Whether it is someone’s first home, their fifth home, a VA or FHA loan, a difficult loan that needs some extra work, or simply someone who needs a plan before they are ready, my goal is the same: listen first, give honest advice, and have a team that will work hard for them.
My Christian faith is the foundation of my life. It has shaped the way I try to be a husband, father, grandfather, friend, businessman and servant to others. I certainly do not always get it right, but I try to remember that everything I have is a blessing from God and that those blessings come with a responsibility to serve.
I have also been blessed with 40 years of marriage to my wife, Darla. She has truly been my rock through the ups and downs of life, raising our family, building a career and following wherever God has led us. So much of what I have been able to do would simply not have been possible without her beside me.
For more than 30 years, I have taught Sunday School, now called Life Groups, with a special heart for young married couples. I love studying and teaching God’s Word, but after all these years I have probably learned as much from the people in those classes as they have ever learned from me.
Serving my community has also been an important part of my life. I currently serve as a Director of the Valley View Education Foundation, giving back to the community and school system where I grew up, and I was honored to be a founding member of First Refuge in Denton, helping establish an organization dedicated to serving people in our community who are in need.
In 2010, I made my first mission trip to Haiti. I could never have imagined how much that trip would change my life. Over the years, I continued returning and developed a deep love for the Haitian people. Eventually, Darla and I began personally helping young Haitians pursue education and opportunities that would otherwise have been out of reach. That journey eventually led me to found Advancing Haiti in 2021.
Our mission is built around a simple belief: the circumstances someone is born into should not determine what God can do with their life.
We have now had the privilege of helping young Haitians pursue and complete degrees in business and nursing, as well as training in the heavy equipment trades. We also continue to support six young people living in Haiti, helping provide for their education and basic needs while praying and working toward a future where they may one day have opportunities here in America.
There is still a lot of work to do, and we certainly are not changing Haiti. We are simply trying to make a difference in the lives God has placed in front of us, one young person at a time.
After more than 25 years in the mortgage business, I am grateful for the production, awards and recognition. But when it is all said and done, those are not the things I hope define my life.
I hope I have been a faithful husband, father, grandfather and friend. I hope my clients know that I cared about them, listened to them and did everything I could to help them, even when the answer was not buying a home today. I hope the people I have taught and served have seen Christ in the way I lived. And I hope Darla and I leave things a little better because we were willing to give some of what God gave us away.
Be gracious. Be grateful. Be generous.
Whether you are ready to buy a home today or simply need someone to help you figure out how to get there, my team and I would be grateful for the opportunity to serve you.
